Pub of the Year

You will see on this branch site a number of reports on our presentations of gold, silver and bronze awards to the pubs we have rated most highly for Pub of the Year (POTY).

CAMRA’s Pub of the Year is the annual competition to find the very best pub in the UK. We’ve been highlighting the best pubs in the country since 1988, and the competition helps to showcase quality pubs around the UK that are worth seeking out and visiting. It’s all about finding the cream of the crop and the best place for you to enjoy a pint of cask beer. Some may also have good quality real cider or perry for you to sample.

Throughout the year our members score the cask beers they have drunk in pubs in the area for their quality and condition. These scores are analysed to select the entries for the Good Beer Guide.

The quality beer scores also underpin our POTY scoring, but for that award we also score the pubs each year on seven further categories:

  • Promotion and knowledge of real ale
  • Cleanliness and staff hygiene
  • Community focus
  • Service and welcome
  • Style, décor and atmosphere
  • Sympathy with CAMRA's aims
  • Overall impression and value

The scores are analysed to arrive at our top three pubs.
